MOMENT // Developer, Designer & Producer
MOMENT is an experimental interactive narrative experience developed by a team of three in four days.
Taking the user through different worlds created by each developer, the idea was to explore the effects of human existence and advancement. Where we began, and where we end up. It’s bleak, but the final message ends up being a showcase of human insignificance compared to the cosmos.
Part of the experience was intended to feel cinematic. A sense of proportion would help sell the idea that human beings are nothing but a speck in time and space. Jaw dropping animation is used to sell that idea, literally revealing the truth behind the walls that surround the user.
Developed as a game jam project, the experience is rather short, but at the same time, never ending. The game loops back to the beginning with purpose. This was the first project where I played the role of project lead, and having only four days, had to coordinate across three different time-zones. More than anything, it was a great learning experience for all devs involved.
General improvements I’d like to make are control scheme options such as standard first person controls, and full room scale VR implementation. Some of the levels need some polish as well, and need to be rewritten in terms of world space text. I can imagine the game’s narrative is hard to follow as is and would benefit from some rewriting or surface level exposition. Along with that, some skybox debugging and optimization for Quest.
Check out the demo below, and look forward to the release on itch.io soon!
